On behalf of my Officers & myself, I would like to welcome all the boys to the Company Section.
Fee:
The annual fee this session is £40 per boy.
Uniform:
The new uniform for boys starting the Company Section consists of a blue shirt, tie, black belt, hat, school trousers, black shoes, dark socks. Orders will be taken by Mrs Lamont. Please note the shirts are by collar size. Inspection takes place at the beginning of each evening, with a Captain's Inspection usually the first Friday of the month. All going towards trophies at the Display. Boys are encouraged to keep their uniforms clean, espcially shoes and hats.
They are to bring a bag each week with a change of gear if they are taking part in games after the classes are finished. This is to put their own uniform in during games before dressing again for close of the evening. It's amazing the items of clothing without names or initials on them. Please put names on items of uniforms, it makes it so much easier for us. During Inspection, marks will be deducted for misbehaviour, this is where a boy can let his whole squad down when marks are added up at end of session.
Attendance:
Boys should always arrive at the hall between 7.15pm and 7.25pm in order to be ready to line up at 7.30pm. Attendance is taken at the start of the evening. PERFECT ATTENDANCE MEANS PERFECT.
All boys are asked to attend our 3 parades this session. The enrolment parade to Clark Memorial Church is on Sunday 4th October. Rememberance Parade to Clark Memorial Church is on the 8th November and the annual Battalion Parade is in March in Kilwinning.
Recruits:
Once again, I will take the recruit class and go through all aspects of the Boys' Brigade with them. They will be given a red book to work through and a simple written exam is given about December. If your son concerned about anything in Company Section, encourage him to come and speak to me direct and we will try to sort things out. After this, they can join any of the classes they wish. Primary 7 boys still take part in all Junior Sections competitions as well as the Company Section ones, so they may be very busy, try to encourage them to take part in everything.
I will not allow bullying of any sort in any section, and if a boy is caught doing this, he may be asked to leave which has happened before. We are coming to Boys' Brigade to enjoy, learn and have fun.
Boys who have already started their badgework, can check their own chart with me any Friday night. We will encourage the boys to try a variety and not the same classes all the time. This eventually leads to their President's Badge.
Seniors; Boys aged 15 and over:
Seniors will be helping out at classes this year as well as carrying out their Company Service work in either Anchor, Junior or Company Sections each week towards their Queen's Badge.
Midweek Activities:
Football training will commence on Monday 7th September in Academy Games Hall, 7.30pm - 9pm. 50p to be paid each week.
Badmington training will commence on Wednesday 9th September at Inverclyde Centre. 6.30pm - 7.30pm for boys P7 and upwards, £1 per night.
Chanter and Drumming at the usual times on Wednesdays. As equipment is expensive at all extra activites, it is expected that all boys will take care, good behaviour at all times.
Mrs Lamont is also our Secretary and will keep you all up to date by letter with news of forthcoming events and competitions. Please keep letters in a prominent position and not in the boys' trouser pockets. A sheet for names is always put on the notice board for competitions, please encourage your son to take part as this extends his knowledge in Boys' Brigade as well as meeting boys from other towns and schools.
Many friends are made through B.B. where some have even met at College or University later on.
If your son comes home with a letter with a tear-off slip attached, please return it a.s.a.p. It is important that competition convenors know numbers coming and I also have to arrange transport. There is nothing worse than lots of boys entering a competition, numbers are given to the convenor and then the boys pull out the night before, mostly just because they can't be bothered getting up early on a Saturday. If they came with us, you never know, they may just enjoy themselves.
Christmas Card Delivery Service:
This huge event is undertaken by all Officers and Company Boys. Parents, Grandparents of all boys from all 3 sections can assist in delivering cards. Approx 35,000 were delivered last year. This takes place from 7th - 11th December. Details later.
