In 2008 the Congregational Board agreed to embark on the restoration of the church building.

 

This commenced with preparation of a Condition Report to repair and restore the stonework, replace roof slates, replace lead work, renew guttering and down pipes, replace some wood rot and plaster, rewire the church, upgrade the light fittings and redecorate the church.

 

In September 2008 Robert Potter & Partners Architects in Ayr were appointed to oversee the total refurbishment. This involved undertaking a feasibility study preparing drawings of the Church and preparing Bills of Quantities for tendering purposes to establish the indicative cost of the project. The indicative cost of the project was £694,608.

 

The Congregational Board agreed to fund the restoration project from reserves, grants and pledges from the congregation. In May 2010 there were three presentations to the congregation and, along with other events, £209,095 was raised.

 

Applications were made to Historic Scotland and Heritage Lottery Fund. Historic Scotland liked our project however, due to their limited resources, were unable to provide funding in recessionary times. Heritage Lottery Fund supported the restoration with a grant of £125,000 with a further £28,000 raised from other funding organisations.
